This 7 days Tarangire and Lake Manyara safari is a journey through some of northern Tanzania’s most beautiful wildlife destinations. This Tanzania safari begins in Tarangire National Park, known for its vast landscapes, large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. It then continues to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder with one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. The journey ends in Lake Manyara National Park, which is famous for tree-climbing lions, flamingos and diverse birdlife.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Arusha and transfer to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, your safari guide will meet you at your hotel in Arusha. You will set off to Tarangire National Park, taking about 2 to 3 hours to get there. Upon arrival, you will begin your first game drive. Tarangire is home to elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes and many antelope species. Later in the afternoon, you will be driven to a lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Full Day in Tarangire National Park
Today is spent exploring Tarangire National Park at a relaxed pace. After an early breakfast, you will head out for a morning game drive when animals are most active. You may follow wildlife tracks along the riverbanks and open plains.
After lunch at the lodge inside the park, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive, discovering different areas of Tarangire. In the evening, you will return to the lodge, have dinner, and retire to bed.
Day 3: Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After breakfast, you will leave Tarangire National Park and head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.
When you reach the crater area, you will check into a lodge of your choice. The afternoon will be spent at leisure, allowing you to rest and enjoy breathtaking views over the crater. At the end of the day, you will have dinner and retire to bed.
Day 4: Full Day Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive
After an early morning breakfast, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day game drive. The crater is home to a variety of wildlife.
You may spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippos and many bird species. Ngorongoro is also one of the best places in Tanzania to spot the rare black rhino. You enjoy a picnic lunch near a hippo pool before continuing with afternoon game viewing. Later, you ascend back to the rim and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you will depart the Ngorongoro area and drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a journey of about 2 to 2.5 hours.
Upon arrival, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive. Wildlife sightings may include elephants, buffalo, giraffes, baboons, monkeys and a wide variety of birds. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 6: Full Day in Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you will head out for a full day of exploration in Lake Manyara National Park. You explore the forest areas where primates are common, then move toward the lake shore where flamingos and other water birds gather.
With luck, you may spot the famous tree-climbing lions resting in acacia trees. After a picnic lunch, you continue game viewing before returning to your lodge in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Morning game drive and departure
On your final day, you will have breakfast followed by a short morning game drive. You will then begin the 2-hour drive back to Arusha, arriving in time for your flight or hotel drop-off.
